What Are Veneers?

Veneers are a popular dental treatment that has the capacity to totally transform the shape and look of a person’s smile and facial features. They are thin, teeth colored shells which can be attached directly onto the front surface of your remaining teeth to improve their appearance and functionality. Dental veneers are usually made from porcelain materials that can bond permanently to your teeth. They can be used to treat a wide array of cosmetic dental concerns, from chipped, broken or discolored teeth to those which may be smaller than average or underdeveloped. Some patients choose to get just one veneer fitted when suffering from a small chip or break, but it’s more common to get between 6 and 8 veneers if you wish to create an orderly and symmetrical smile. The 8 which occupy the top of your front teeth are the most commonly commissioned veneers.

2 Types – Prep & No Prep

Although most dental veneers are commonly made out of porcelain materials, this isn’t always the case for every set of veneers. Installing a traditional set of dental veneers calls for considerable preparation work when compared with alternative “no-prep veneers”. No-prep veneers take far less time and can be much less invasive to install. Traditional dental veneers typically require the patient’s teeth be ground down, sometimes grinding even past the enamel layer. Though this will allow for more specific placement, it’s an irreversible procedure that may be a little painful,  often requiring a local anesthetic before the procedure takes place. On the other hand, no-prep veneers require minimal tooth preparation or alteration – rather than remove layer upon layer of tooth underneath your enamel, such veneers will only affect above the enamel. In most cases, choosing a no-prep veneers treatment won’t require a local anesthetic.

What Are The Benefits Of Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are some of the most natural looking tooth loss treatment options on the market today. Every set of veneers is made by utilizing unique impressions that our dentists take of your teeth, resulting in a set of veneers that matches up perfectly with the shape and color of your smile! Not only do veneers look as natural as can be, but they can also feel natural and noninvasive, too. The veneer covering covers stained or cracked teeth that may not function well, forming a kind of protective shell that allows you to eat and talk normally. Veneers can fix a wide variety of different cosmetic issues, including gapped teeth, chips, discoloration, misshapen teeth, uneven teeth and more. Choosing dental veneers is a sustainable decision, as a proper porcelain set is both durable and stain resistant, likely lasting between 10-15 years or more. It’s easier to clean a set of dentures, and they can definitely stand the test of time, but you must make an effort to take good care of them if you wish to make the most of your investment. Regular brushing will help to keep them in tip top condition.
